Brainspotting is a newer therapeutic approach that emerged out of EMDR and was developed by Dr. David Grand. It focuses on the connection between the eyes, the brain, and the body. It is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and release trauma, negative emotions, and other psychological challenges. Brainspotting involves identifying specific eye positions, or "brainspots," that are associated with the activation of traumatic or emotionally charged experiences. The therapist assists the client in processing and resolving these issues by maintaining their gaze on the identified spot.
Expansion Brainspotting broadens its scope to include personal growth. Expansion Brainspotting explores not only the resolution of negative experiences but also the enhancement of positive qualities and the expansion of one's potential.
In Expansion Brainspotting, therapists and clients work together to identify and activate "expansion brainspots" that are associated with positive emotions, strengths, and the realization of personal potential.
During psychotherapy sessions, Jen will work with you to identify 'brainspots,' which are specific points in your field of vision connected with emotions, beliefs, past events, or body memories. These cannot be accessed through talking alone. Applying focused mindfulness on these spots with an attuned brainspotting therapist can facilitate release and help you expand in your desired areas.
